It's official, I was given a start date of November 23rd. I will travel on the red eye
tomorrow evening, arriving in DCA (Reagan National) to report to FEMA HQ's bright eyed
and bushy tailed. I'll be in training for the next two weeks and then back to SFO.
When I return, I plan to catch some surf, kick it with the kids, finalize the room mate
sitchiayshun before ringing in 2009. Oh yes and let's not forget that my baby celebrates
her Sweet 16, January 2nd.
So it is finished, all of the waiting, voluminous transfer of documents and incessant emails,
faxes, phone calls and text messages, have finally secured me a Federal position reporting
to HQ....in the thick of it all Washington, DC.

Hello Flygurl:
You must tell-all about the secrets of FEMA disaster relief, and how our taxpayer money is being well-spent. Of course, that is unlike the $700 billion-plus that the U.S. Treasury is giving away to Wall Street bankers, with their top-hats in hand. So are you going to be living in DC for the time now?
Eric my promatcher Friend;
I'm actually in Emmitsburg, MD. which is 10 miles from Camp David. It's truly in the middle of nowhere. A home costs around $250K and is actually on some acreage.
Unlike Wall Street bankers the GAO follows where every last dollar is spent. In the case of FEMA, that means their dollars go to DHS, which has a very large appetite what with defending the homeland et al...We just attempt to clean up disasters on shoe string budgets! It's amazing how anything gets done considering....
No I will no be living in DC. I return home next weekend, get my affairs in order and then deploy to New Orleans (NOLA) after the New Year!
Happy Happy Joy Joy, as we say! :)
